Drilling into Deep Time

Photo of all attendees for the KIND Workshop outside the GFZ in Potsdam (photo credit – ICDP).

HESCOR Researcher, Dr. Elena Robakiewicz, was one of 65 scientists from all over the world who gathered in Potsdam from July 12-15 to discuss ideas for scientific drilling of Lake Kinneret in Israel. This workshop, hosted by the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP), is one step along the way to writing a proposal to scientifically drill Lake Kinneret (KIND project). The team is interested in research questions very relevant to HESCOR including questions related to paleoclimate variability and its link to human evolution.

ICDP workshops are just one component to build a scientific drilling project which take years to plan and finance. Read more about the ICDP on their website at ICDP’s Webpage and reach out to Elena with any questions you might have regarding the project or the ICDP’s Early Career Researcher chapter!
