WG5 member Dr. Elena Robakiewicz has been on a whirlwind international tour this summer through her association with the ICDP (International Continental Scientific Drilling Program) .
As a member and cochair of the Early Career Researcher Network for ICDP , Elena has been incredibly active with ICDP over the past year. This year, she helped prepare a workshop in Chiba, Japan where other ECRs joined to learn about building networks to create ICDP project proposals and workshops – a process that takes multiple years to accomplish.

Two weeks later, she attended a training course in Windischeschenbach, Germany at the KTB drilling site where she was both a presenter for the ECR Network and a participant to learn about the technical and scientific aspects of on-site continental drilling.

Earlier this month, Elena was in Addis Ababa, with Dr. Verena Förster, to attend an ICDP workshop for the DeepCHB project that aims to drill a 2-million-year-old record from the Chew Bahir basin. With 60 other researchers and ministers, including Dr. Frank Schabitz who was attending virtually in Potsdam, the DeepCHB team began the process of preparing a proposal to submit in the coming months.
